Boulder is as beautiful as it is unique. Visitors here are treated to both a sensory and cultural treat. We have 4 very distinct seasons, with a moderate to cold winter. The Boulderites motto is "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it'll change". The moral: Always carry a jacket.
Snug against the dramatic Flatirons of the Rocky Mountains, the view is breathtaking from most anywhere in town. Boulder is one of the few cities to be literally right up against the mountains, which helps create the environment. The founding fathers also sought to preserve this beauty by surrounding the city with parks and open space, so the Denver metroplex will never encroach, as it has on neighboring towns.
Downtown Boulder is a mecca for arts and crafts and other cultural activities. Most noticible, and unique, is the Pearl Street Mall, which is a must for visitors at any time of year. "The Pearl" is an outdoor walking mall lined with oddball shops, and even odder people. You'll almost always find to find a juggler, unicycle rider or magician on the Mall, while being treated to various musical accompaniments.
A 30 minute drive west up any of the well groomed canyon roads and you'll be treated to some of the most incredible Rocky Mountain views anywhere, and world class resorts like the Eldora Ski Area near Estes Park.
Words of warning to the traveller: Boulder is home to the University of Colorado (widely considered a "Public Ivy League" school) with a student population of 25,000 students. Make hotel and entertainment reservations well ahead of time or you might not be able to stay in town.
